it could be firmly claimed that, now days, agonist substitution treatments, play an important role in substance dependence treatment. some effective treatment protocols have been designed and suggested regarding substitution treatments with significantly positive outcomes. one simple but very devisable point about such treatments is that treatment would only be effective in case patient remains in treatment for a significant period of time. in other words, retention in treatment is one of the main factors in effectiveness of treatment. studies show that there is no difference between patients who attended treatment for a period of less than 90 days with patients who have never enrolled any treatments. these studies suggested that at least one year of retention in treatment would bring better therapeutic results (some studies suggest two years for so).
